In vitro fertilization (IVF) is a process by which an egg is fertilized outside the body in a laboratory. IVF is a common treatment for infertility when other methods of assisted reproductive technology have failed. IVF brings hope to many couples, but its success rate is not high. Acupuncture as a supporting treatment can improve its success rate. Many reproductive endocrinologists often recommend acupuncture in conjunction with IVF.

Treatments begin at least four weeks before the anticipated date of the embryo transfer, and are performed twice a week. Once the embryo transfer is complete, acupuncture may still be continued for morning sickness and miscarriage prevention.

As an acupuncturist specialized in infertility, I have helped many women to have their babies via IVF. I hope this article brings you new information. When you or a loved one is undergoing IVF, know that acupuncture is effective in increasing the success rate.

Stay well,

Dr. Zhenbo Li
